Welcome to the North West Events and Information Newsletter for April 2007

Richard HudsonHello and welcome to the April newsletter. Well, it looks as though spring has finally sprung in the North West and the region is buzzing with activity. In the newsletter today we are delighted to draw your attention to the 'How Intelligent is Your Business' events, taking place around the region over the next couple of months. We went along to one of the events at Manchester University last week and found it extremely useful and informative.

Manchester Business School is back with the ever popular 'Vital Topics'. Under discussion this month is 'The Future of Flying' with Willie Walsh, Chief Executive at British Airways. We bring you the latest news from the Common Ground Sign Dance Theatre, which is going from strength to strength and is now moving towards becoming a Social Enterprise. We would also like to introduce you to event management company, Definitive Events. They can help you with all your event organisation/management needs, however large or small.

If you're looking for social events, St Ann's Hospice is hosting a Rugby Sporting Dinner at Old Trafford on 26th April. And looking forward to next month, the Royal School for the Deaf & Communication Disorders has organised a prestigious, black tie Seashell Ball on 18th May and Scope's first charity Golf Day will take place on 14th May.

That's all for now. The menu below will enable you to navigate around the newsletter. And remember, please help our advertisers by mentioning North West Events and Information should you contact anyone listed in the newsletter.

Vital Topics 2007

Manchester Business School's Vital Topics lecture series brings you inspirational business leaders from across the world. They all have one thing in common - the vision and drive to do business in a new way. The next two lectures in the series, sponsored by The Royal Bank of Scotland and media partner North West Business Insider, are:

Willie WalsheWednesday 18 April
Willie Walsh, Chief Executive at British Airways
The Future for Flying

Widely known as a miracle worker within aviation circles, Willie Walsh joined British Airways - succeeding Rod Eddington as chief executive - in October 2005. Since taking over leadership of the company, Willie has streamlined the business to simplify BA's core offering and provide clearer accountability. It's no secret that the aviation industry is currently experiencing some turbulence - so don't miss your opportunity to hear where he sees the sector going.

Keith JonesWednesday 2 May
Keith Jones, managing director, PC World Group
Get with the Programme - Keeping Customers Happy with Next Generation Technology

Since taking over the company, in April 2005, Keith has pioneered innovative motivational techniques that put customers ahead of quick sales. He recently abolished sales commissions across the chain's 150 stores, after it found that it could make more money by rewarding staff to serve customers properly rather than to clinch a quick sale.

Each event starts at 6.00pm with a networking canapé reception prior to the lecture and will take place at Manchester Business School West.

Tickets are £22.50 and can be purchased at: www.mbs.ac.uk/vitaltopics

Common Ground

Common Ground Sign Dance Theatre

Common Ground Sign Dance TheatreCommon Ground Sign Dance Theatre is delighted to announce its new direction, in addition to its status as a registered charity, the Company is moving towards becoming a Social Enterprise.

Common Ground, is a unique contemporary dance company based in Liverpool, Capital of Culture '08, which aims to assist people of all backgrounds in the realisation of professional dance works, using dance as a vehicle to motivate Deaf people and provide a bridge between the Deaf and hearing communities. Our legacy is to generate a sense of personal and community ownership whilst contributing to the creative drive in the UK and internationally.

The current intention is to strengthen the business and financial aspects, moving toward the Social Enterprise model rather than that of a charity in order to create a legacy of lasting social change.

Now for the first time in five years Common Ground is taking to the road, touring a triple bill of shows: Breaker (2005); Men and Demons (2005); Places that Pass (2006). The blend of cultures and languages; Deaf and hearing, sign language and spoken English give the Company's work its unique and exciting flavour.

Denise Armstrong, Artistic Director said, through her Sign Language Interpreter, "The Company is strong and solid and we are all looking forward to entertaining audiences and sharing our work with them. The three works we are touring each have their own identity and dynamic and will appeal to all audiences". Anybody interested in dance should take this opportunity to enjoy what the Guardian described as "Poetry of the Body!"

Common Ground offers short workshops for business aimed at relaxation and stress relief. For more information about these workshops, performances (corporate entertainment), partnerships or sponsorship please contact info@signdance.com or visit the website: www.signdance.com.
