East Cheshire Hospice Arts Fair
THE NEXT BIG THING?
Artists have donated. Schools have been inspired. Sponsors have dipped hands in pockets. The Town Hall has been booked. Home-made cake recipes have been consulted. After all this preparation, the East Cheshire Art Fair opens its doors on the 10th of October.
It promises a feast of new, emerging and established artistic talent. There will be things to put on walls or around homes, by over seventy individual artists working in photography, fine art, ceramics and sculpture. All the works are for sale, at prices to suit all budgets, and all the profits will go to support the great work of the East Cheshire Hospice.
Now in its tenth year, the organisers have aimed to broaden the appeal of the show. There are two evening events - the official opening by the Cllr Thelma Jackson, Mayor of the Borough of Macclesfield on the 10th of October, and an Artists' Evening on Tuesday 14th October. At the latter there will be a chance to talk informally to some of the artists, over a glass of wine. Both evenings will offer musical and other entertainment as a backcloth to the art on show.
In the run-up to the show, there have also been a number of schools outreach events around the area. A number of the exhibiting artists have volunteered their time to work with children in practical ways. As one of the children said "Better than work" - but the teachers confirmed that the kids had learned a lot at the hands of the masters!
This could be East Cheshire's chance to discover 'the next big thing' in the visual arts world. We think it's worth going along to have a look. All in a really good cause.
East Cheshire Art Fair runs daily (except Sunday) from 10-18 October at Macclesfield Town Hall. More details of the art, the artists and the special events can be seen on the website www.theartofcaring.org.uk
